BIAs promote BUY LOCAL this holiday season

Business, News & Updates

During the holiday season, BIAs promote BUY LOCAL to support our local businesses and economy. We are proud to join hashtag#Ottawa‘s Economic Development partners Ottawa Board of Trade Ottawa Tourism Invest Ottawa and City of Ottawa / Ville d’Ottawa in this local movement and campaign!
Here are some interesting takeaways we learned at the Canadian Urban Institute State of Canada’s Cities Summit last week. An informative Lightning presentation (under 5 mins!) by Amy Robinson (she/her) LOCO BC

– Local businesses drive 2 – 8x more impact on the local economy
**Local businesses recirculate up to $66 out of every $100 back into the local economy**
– The 4 P’s of LOCAL BUSINESS are: Profits – direct to local business owners; Payroll – paid local employees; Purchasing – revenues and salaries that circulate to local spending; Philanthropy – local charities are directly supported.
– A simple 10% increase (we can do more than this!) in spending locally makes a significant positive change to our local economy.
